about

The Arctic Zone Vs . The Drunken Orchestra

I have been making mostly instrumental music as The Arctic Zone for 15 years now. The style is referred to as electronic, which has a wide range of genres , of which I employed several . Ambient music has been a touchstone and a recurring theme. Over the last 3 years the music has evolved into a neo classical , jazz project with world music underpinnings. The timing of this shift in style can be attributed to when I began teaching and exploring different concepts and syncopation. Over the last 4 years I have met several talented orchestral musicians and a few have leant their talents to this project, playing their instruments to my minimal piano and guitar pieces , taking sometimes bizarre instructions from an app developed by Brian Eno called oblique strategies .
Many thanks to Carlos (trumpet), Vince (alto sax), Billy (marimba ,Timpani and additional percussion) and Terri (Flute and oboe).
While the album is very experimental, it is also quite beautiful. It releases on Bandcamp and pretty much all online services September 12th.
